Jordan Jones got a red card late in Celtic’s 2-0 win at Ibrox in last week’s Old Firm Derby, after a horror challenge on Hoops debutante, Moritz Bauer. Now the Celtic right-back has revealed what the Rangers winger did following his sending off.

Rangers’ day went from bad to worse when Jordan Jones lost his calm in the 96th minute against Celtic and ended up earning himself a red card from referee Bobby Madden following a horror tackle on right-back, Moritz Bauer. Furthermore, the winger ended up injuring himself in the process and has now been left out of Steven Gerrard’s Rangers squad for the Europa League group stage.

His moment of madness could’ve also earned him a place in the manager’s bad books who publicly criticised the challenge after the game. Thankfully, the new Celtic right-back was unhurt due to the challenge and managed to impress the fans in a cameo performance which saw him catch the eye with his long throw-ins resulting in instant comparisons with former Stoke City midfielder, Rory Delap.

While Jones has earned heavy criticism for his challenge, Moritz Bauer himself has revealed that there are no hard feelings between the players and believes that it was nothing more than a bit of frustration at losing a big game that led to him making the tackle. He even confirmed that the Rangers star had called him following the game to apologise for his actions.

Speaking with Celtic TV, Bauer said:

"“I didn’t feel it that bad on the pitch, I just felt ‘right, that was a foul’ and when I saw the red card I was a bit surprised. But when I saw it on the TV it was a bad tackle.“At the end of the game I think there was a bit of frustration and I didn’t feel like it was a personal attack. It’s a badly timed tackle and luckily I didn’t injure myself.”"

The fact that Jones actually called him after the game to inquire about his condition appears to have come as a surprise to Bauer:

"“Because I didn’t injure myself or anything I didn’t expect a call but it was a very positive surprise. Big compliment to him, it’s very fair play. He asked how I felt and if he had caught me badly and he apologised.“We spoke and we’re all good so no bad feelings at all.”"

It is nice to see that there is no bad blood between the two players following the heated clash on Sunday. With the international break now over, Bauer will be returning to Celtic duties while Jones will be looking to quickly recover from his self-imposed injury and make his way back into Steven Gerrard’s first-team plans.
