During Celtic’s Premiership match against Edinburgh side Hearts, an unlikely character was seen taking in the match. Manchester United’s midfielder Andreas Pereira was spotted watching the match in Celtic Park according to the Daily Record. Could Pereira be the big signing Celtic has been looking for all summer?

As Celtic cruised to a 3-1 victory over Hearts on Sunday, a surprising face was spotted in the crowd at Celtic Park – Manchester United star Andreas Pereira. Now just because Pereira was at Parkhead does not mean that he will join the club. However, it is worth noting his appearance at the match due to the fact that travelling up to Glasgow is not the most convenient course of action to take.

The midfielder has seen his ups and downs this season with Manchester United. Pereira got the start when Manchester United began its season with a 4-0 win over Chelsea FC. However, since the start of the season Pereira has only seen the bench in Manchester United’s most recent games against Wolves and Crystal Place. New signing Daniel James on the other hand has made a brilliant start to the season scoring twice in the first three games and has made Pereira’s spot in the team his own.

The young star would be an excellent addition to the club, and would appease fans who want to see Celtic sign more players who are able to contribute to the first team. However, the young star just signed a deal that would see him stay with Manchester United through the 2023 season, making his departure more difficult to imagine. Instead a loan deal might back more sense if the Brazilian feels he will not get the game time that he deserves at Old Trafford this season.

Previously, Pereira was on loan to Granada and Valencia, and has seen action with the Brazilian National team as senior due to his father’s nationality. If Manchester United decided to part ways for any length of time with the young star, and Celtic FC were to be the receiving team, it would be seen as a world-class signing.

Sometimes the easiest explanation is the best explanation. In this case, it is quite possible that the Belgian born player was simply taking in the game while rooting for his friend Joel Pereira who was the goalkeeper for Hearts according the Daily Record.

It is difficult to see a path forward for Celtic FC to obtain Andreas Pereira, but it is not out of the realm of possibilities. The young star has seemingly fallen out of favour at Manchester United after the blistering start that Daniel James has made to his Red Devils career.

With first team football now looking difficult to come by at Old Trafford, the Belgian winger might be looking for a place where he can get regular first-team football. If Celtic can make a great offer, and Manchester United is willing to part ways for the season, then a loan deal might very well be on the cards.
