Christopher Jullien debuted for Celtic FC on Tuesday evening during the Champions League Qualifying match against Nomme Kalju.

Christopher Jullien was a high profile signing this summer for Celtic FC. Jullien, the centre-back, was brought to Celtic from Toulouse for £7million. However, due to Jullien’s lack of fitness, the new acquisition has stayed on the sideline through the first three matches of the pre-season.

After regaining shape, Jullien took the pitch for the Hoops on Tuesday night as the faced Nomme Kalju. Celtic had little to be concerned about considering the 5-0 aggregate score the Hoops carried into the match. This proved the perfect opportunity to for Celtic to introduce Jullien.

Jullien played the entire 90-minutes, which proved he was ready to take the pitch for the season. During those 90-minutes, Jullien performed admirably. The centre-back was able to showcase his ball handling skills, and played well on both sides of the ball. However, most fans will remember Jullien’s missed opportunity in the second half. Jullien could not get high enough on a cross, and put a header right into the Nomme Kalju goalkeeper’s chest. Jullien after the match acknowledged the mistake and was quoted saying “I’m working every day to jump higher and be there”.

Despite Jullien’s few shortcomings in Tuesday’s match, he performed to expectations for his first match of the season. As Jullien continues to improve his fitness, and as his play becomes sharper, he will no doubt exceed his £7million value for which he was acquired this past summer.

Jullien has been suspended for the first domestic league game against St. Johnstone this Saturday. Therefore, one should expect to see the new signing take the pitch next against CFR Cluj in the Third Qualifying round of the Champions League on August 6th.
