The move to Celtic hasn’t worked out for the Irishman. He may have been the star man at Aberdeen, but at Celtic Park he has been nothing more than a bit-part player.

He has had to face long-term injuries and being knocked down the pecking order thanks to the form of James Forrest and Patrick Roberts – who is now in Spain on loan from Manchester City.

But even when he has been given the chance to stake his claim in the side, he can’t find the form that he from his Pittodrie days. He loses possession quite easily, he is at times off the pace and his final balls are all over the place.

It is sad to see a player failing to make the grade, but for Hayes time is up and despite having over a year to run on his contract – Celtic need to move him on to pastures new this January.
