It was a tough task at hand for the second leg. Everybody should have known that it wasn’t going to be a walk in the park for Celtic to advance past Zenit.

Advance they didn’t. Two goals within the first 30 minutes really caught the Bhoys off guard. Quick daggers only set up an Aleksandr Kokorin 67th minute strike, which all but put the dagger in the hearts of Celtic.

A lot of blame has been thrown around on social media as a result of the instant knee-jerk reactions.

The Celt have been in iffy form lately; the win in the first leg really came as a shock. Dropping against an eighth-placed club in the Premiership probably won’t fare well against a good side in Zenit.

The Hoops won’t be going for the treble this year. Silverware at the end is more than likely for Celtic, but chances at Europe won’t happen now and probably not in the near future.

As mentioned before, a lot of blame is being thrown around for the collapse in Russia. Injuries might have played a big part, but getting smacked 3-0 regardless of possession numbers is unacceptable for a club at Celtic’s caliber.
