Celtic: Brendan Rodgers promises a signing before the window closes
By Nick McAdam
With the concern of a lack of depth all over the pitch, Celtic fans have been relatively eager for new signings. Recent statements from Brendan Rodgers indicates that new arrivals will happen before the window closes.
The manager laid out his transfer plan for the remaining portion of the window. Numerous sources indicate that Rodgers is looking for more “creativity”, which could mean more players on the attacking front.
Despite the injury to Marvin Compper, Rodgers did not seem to comment on any need for more members of the back-line. Celtic were heavily linked to Dusko Tosic not too long ago, but a completed signing never happened.
The Celts and the Rangers are both in for Dundee FC defender Jack Hendry, too. However, a move for the 22-year-old might be a bit unrealistic right now considering he just moved to Dundee over the past summer.
Rodgers must be confident in his defense at the moment. It’s either that, or the Hoops can’t find anybody realistic to target. No matter the way it’s drawn out, the lack of signing another defender still seems a bit concerning as The Celtic Blog notes.
"Brendan is happy with the defence as it stands, the defence we’ve lost a player from. The defence which has signed a guy who can’t play in Europe. The one that includes Simunovic, Boyata and Lustig. There are significant doubts about all three of them. That news is genuinely scary.More from The Celtic BhoysCeltic handed fresh injury doubt before Feyenoord gameCeltic’s £40.7 million announcement should scare RangersBrendan Rodgers makes superb claim about returning Celtic playerBBC pundit makes sensational claim about Celtic hero KyogoKyogo Furuhashi sends clear message to Celtic doubters"
If Celtic can roll with those three players mentioned above (plus Kristoffer Ajer), then all power to them. But, a tough campaign ahead which will be topped with a clash with Zenit in the Europa League means the back-line better be ready.
On the flip side of the coin, the rumors that the likes of Charly Musonda and/or Lewis Baker coming in soon may be closer to reality. Both possess a huge amount of creativity in the middle of the park, which is what Rodgers is looking for.
It’s been a really interesting window for the Bhoys thus far. A fact worth noting is that aside from Lewis Morgan, there hasn’t been any completed or near completed deals for players under 30. Maybe it’s time for Rodgers to eye one more piece of youth for the future.
One more player should be expected by the end of the window. Regardless of whatever position the lad plays, it should be really intriguing to see who Celtic brings in and how they fare for the rest of the campaign.
