It’s been difficult to find the Bhoys linked with a young defender as of late. Marvin Compper seems as if he’s going to earn regular minutes as of next year, but his age means he only has so many years left in him.

Now, it’s looking like Celtic are finally being linked with one of Scotland’s most prized young defenders.

Dundee’s Jack Hendry has recently been linked with a move to the Hoops, and he certainly deserves the attention he’s getting. The 22-year-old defender was so impressive for Dundee against Celtic in the Scottish Premiership that even Brendan Rodgers had some praise to deliver.

It’s hard to believe that such a young player can move from a plethora of teams at such an age. Hendry has been with five clubs so far in his career including Partick Thistle and MK Dons.

The Scot comes with some height at 6’2” and he’s still able to contain some important qualities as a center back. Hendry has sublime passing and tackling capabilities that make him the go to guy for Dundee manager Neil McCann.

McCann values Hendry so much, in fact, that he believes the former Wigan Athletic member won’t be going anywhere come January, according to HITC.

"Dundee boss Neil McCann has poured cold water on the speculation by telling The Courier that he does not expect Hendry to go anywhere in January.More from The Celtic BhoysCeltic handed fresh injury doubt before Feyenoord gameCeltic’s £40.7 million announcement should scare RangersBrendan Rodgers makes superb claim about returning Celtic playerBBC pundit makes sensational claim about Celtic hero KyogoKyogo Furuhashi sends clear message to Celtic doubters"

The need for more young defenders is critical for Celtic at the moment, especially considering that Erik Sviatchenko might find his way out soon. Norwegian defender Kristoffer Ajer comes at the age of 19 and he might just have another young partner to feature alongside him in the upcoming years.

Hendry has already totaled 2 goals this season which is very impressive. More interestingly, however, is that the 22-year-old has never moved for a monetary amount before in his career. If the Celts were to pursue the likes of Hendry in January, it’d be interesting to see how much Dundee were to value him at.

Hendry’s signature could provide some stability on the backline for the years to come. However, Celtic could still do some more work on their defense. The arrival of Compper and the potential signing of Hendry might not be enough considering their tough schedule after the break.

Stay tuned for what the Bhoys have in store.

Would Celtic need anymore at the back with Compper and Hendry in the upcoming window? Should their be this much concern with the Hoops’ defense at the moment? Let us know in the comments below.
