The arrival of Marvin Compper to Celtic only makes the defensive scenario that much more interesting.

The Bhoys currently hold five center backs. Of course, only a certain amount will get regular playing time over the course of the campaign. Kieran Tierney has even featured more centrally this season, making the position battle more tough.

The Celts want to make the most of all their defenders, meaning some might be out by this upcoming window. According to The Scotland HeraldBrendan Rodgers has indicated that every player knows their future status with Celtic.

"“Virtually everyone knows their situation in the squad. I always try to stabilise the emotion of players, so they know where they at. It allows the clubs to go on and the players and their agents to get on with trying to organising moves.“It allows them to come in every day knowing where their future is, how hard they need to work. If it’s here, great, if not they need to prepare for the next move.”More from The Celtic BhoysCeltic handed fresh injury doubt before Feyenoord gameCeltic’s £40.7 million announcement should scare RangersBrendan Rodgers makes superb claim about returning Celtic playerBBC pundit makes sensational claim about Celtic hero KyogoKyogo Furuhashi sends clear message to Celtic doubters"

The most obvious rumor of leaving by the end of the transfer window is defender Erik Sviatchenko. A lot of the rumors provided seem to be speculation, but a move for the Denmark international does make sense.

Sviatchenko has been plagued with injuries this season which only allowed him to play in two total fixtures. His impact obviously can’t be measured on the Hoops’ depleted defense at the moment.

Interestingly enough, the 26-year-old has been linked to clubs in the Serie A and even Japan. However, the most likely option is a loan spell for Sviatchenko.

A loan for the center back seems like the best option especially considering the fact that his success cannot be measured this campaign. Plus, Celtic can either bring Sviatchenko back if he finds form, or sell him permanently.

The power is in the Bhoys’ hands with the future of their defense. The board elected to bring in a 32-year-old in Compper, but he should be given a chance without instant judgement. Yet, it’s no secret that the backline should offer some more youth in the difficult position battle.

Needless to say that the January window is going to be an interesting one for the Bhoys.

Would loaning Sviatchenko be the best option for Celtic? Would you like to see a younger defender come in at the transfer window? If so, who? Let us know in the comments below.
