Report: Celtic close to signing wonderkid midfielder
By Nick McAdam
Celtic’s aging midfield might be getting the extra boost it needs. Youth is one thing, but having talent to potentially make the first-team is another.
Brendan Rodgers and the rest of the Celtic board might have hit the jackpot when finding St. Mirren midfielder Lewis Morgan. The Celts continue to find talent in Scotland, and this kid might be right up there with the likes of Kieran Tierney.
In Morgan’s entire career, he’s already totaled 21 goals in 50 games. This season has been no different from the wonderkid as he’s amassed 10 goals in the Scottish Championship. Morgan grasped a brace against former Premiership side Dundee United.
The 21-year-old is exactly what the Hoops need to begin competing in all competitions. His dribbling and movement off the ball create all sorts of trouble for sides in Scotland’s second tier.
St. Mirren’s boss Tony Fitzpatrick has given plenty of praise to Morgan. Fitzpatrick tells The Sun that Morgan has plenty of quality to fit right in at Paradise.
"“He’s got two great feet, he’s got pace, he’s exciting, and he’s a great lad. When you talk about wanting to be a top player, then he’s a very impressive young man, and when you speak to him and he’s got that plan in his head.More from The Celtic BhoysCeltic handed fresh injury doubt before Feyenoord gameCeltic’s £40.7 million announcement should scare RangersBrendan Rodgers makes superb claim about returning Celtic playerBBC pundit makes sensational claim about Celtic hero KyogoKyogo Furuhashi sends clear message to Celtic doubters“That’s the difference with Lewis. Ability-wise, there is a reason you are going to Celtic Park, and in terms of ability, Lewis is as good as anything at Celtic if I’m being honest."
The best part of the Celts signing Morgan is that he could come at a steal of a price. BBC Sport notes that the Bhoys are reportedly coming in with an asking price of far below 1 million pounds.
"Celtic are close to signing the St Mirren midfielder Lewis Morgan for a fee of around £300,000."
Unfortunately, Morgan will likely finish out the rest of the season with St. Mirren who currently sit at the top of the Championship table.
However, somebody with Morgan’s potential is worth the wait. It’s another homegrown player that can benefit Celtic and the rest of Scotland in the near future.
Do you believe Morgan is worth the small fee given his potential? How could Morgan slot into Celtic’s midfield either this season or in the next campaign? Give us your thoughts in the comments below.
