Celtic’s appearance in the Europa League doesn’t come with a good story about how they got there.

To make that story a tad bit shorter, the Bhoys got the most unlucky draw when featuring in a group with Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich. It was a  Champions League campaign for Celtic that ended with little-to-no bright spots.

Well, at least that’s what most of thought.

Apparently, some publications gave some praise to some of the Hoops in their short Champions League campaign, particularly Kieran Tierney.

Italian publication Calciomercato provided their list for the best Champions League XI in the group stages of the competition. The Celts young left back appeared in that list alongside the likes of Samuel Umtiti, Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar. Here’s what the website had to say about Tierney:

"The 20-year-old raised his stock with Manchester United by turning in two huge performances against Bayern Munich."

It must be a big deal when Calciomercato produces their “best of” lists, so much so that Tierney himself even reacted to it. At first glance, it seemed as if the young Scot was a bit surprised to make the list. He had the following to say about the accomplishment, courtesy of the Daily Record.

"“I think it’s right-back they’ve put me in at but I’m delighted to be in the names and for me to see that in the Champions League it feels great.More from The Celtic BhoysCeltic handed fresh injury doubt before Feyenoord gameCeltic’s £40.7 million announcement should scare RangersBrendan Rodgers makes superb claim about returning Celtic playerBBC pundit makes sensational claim about Celtic hero KyogoKyogo Furuhashi sends clear message to Celtic doubters“It’s hard, I’m so young and just to learn from big games like that, big experiences, it was only going to help me in the long run.”"

Tierney shouldn’t be so shocked about the result, however. Celtic’s starting defender has been absolutely brilliant all season long.

The left back averages around 2 tackles and 3 interceptions per game, which is good for near the top on the Celtic squad. Tierney has also amassed 3 goals which is an unbelievable amount for a defender.

Tierney’s speed, passing, and all-around defending makes him one of the best for the Bhoys and for Team Scotland. Tierney may be shocked for this accomplishment, but he shouldn’t be stunned to win many more similar accomplishments in the future.
