This is a bit more about the long term than today, as there’s little doubt that Craig Gordon is on top of his game. But, Gordon is also getting older and has had an awful injury history prior to his time at Parkhead.

Hamid and D.C. United appear at an impasse on a new contract and that could mean a player right there for the taking at the right price. This is a player on the fringe of the national team, and that’s only because the U.S. happens to have one of the deepest goalkeeping groups in international football.

If he wants to take the next step, an eventual move to Europe certainly would help get the attention of Bruce Arena. Oh, and getting away from the quagmire of a 2017 season with D.C. United would be great.

My biggest question is if Hamid, who was the first home-grown player from D.C. United’s academy, wants to stick around one last season and help the Black-and-Red open their purpose-built stadium. If so, this is a move that still could be made after the 2017-18 season.

Let’s just say, this would be the perfect marriage for me, as Hamid has a great work ethic, a great personality and a true love of the game…besides being one of the most athletic keepers America has put out in the last decade.
