Celtic star Scott Sinclair has been racially abused by thugs at a Bonfire in East Belfast during the 11th July ‘cultural celebrations’.
A disgusting banner showing a monkey with the words ‘Scott Sinclair loves bananas’ appeared at the bonfire in the Avoneil area of East Belfast this morning and remained there for several hours. Below the racist banner was another derogatory comment about Celtic Football Club.
Unfortunately this is not the first time such banners have been draped on these bonfires which are supposed to celebrate protestant/unionist/loyalist culture. In previous years effigies of hanging Celtic supporters, club memorabilia and anything remotely Irish or Catholic has appeared on the annual beacon.
Anti-Racism is beautiful, magical
Since the banner was reported, the pictures have been widely circulated on social media and have been rightly condemned by all right thinking individuals. Celtic supporters have responded like they always do, in the best way possible. The hoops fans have been all over Twitter and Facebook showing their support for their winger who gained the accolade of the best player in Scotland in his debut season at the club.
Belfast
The location of this particular bonfire is very relevant to the club at this time. Celtic will travel to Belfast this Friday to take on Linfield in the Champions League second qualifying tie.

Sinclair will hope to keep up his dazzling form in green and white at Windsor Park and fire Celtic into a commanding lead to take back to Parkhead for the return leg on July 19th. Although no Celtic fans will be present at the game to lend him their support, Sinclair will only have to take a look at his Twitter to know that we are all with him.
