Celtic Transfer Rumors: Moussa Dembele on list for 3 teams now?
It took all of two months in to Moussa Dembele’s move to Celtic last summer for the transfer rumor mill to heat up. He was supposed to have left for a “bigger” club in January and should’ve been gone by now according to some reports.
Yet, as we approach the first leg of a Champions League second round qualifier against Linfield, Dembele is still in the Hoops.
But, that hasn’t stopped the rumor mill from churning even faster these days.
In the span of the past 24 hours, the young French international striker is allegedly a main target for three clubs — Chelsea, West Ham and French side Marseille. Perhaps the most curious of the three is the French side.
Sure, a return home would be cool, but does it advance his career much? France’s Ligue 1 is a step up in domestic competition, but Marsielle aren’t a guarantee of European football at the moment. Whereas Celtic can give him that chance once again this year. Let’s also talk price…does anyone think Marsielle has around £30-40 million to pry him away?
It’s just a great example of rumors being rumors and making little to know sense. So, please don’t get worried over this one. It isn’t happening.
Meanwhile, it appears the rumors surrounding West Ham just won’t go away. Last we left off, West Ham were hoping to pry him away from Parkhead for somewhere in the £40 million price range.
It’s a move that makes some sense, as both Andy Carroll and Diafra Sakho were of-injured this past season and beyond. But, so was Dembele and the cover for injury is the play here, that doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.
Chelsea, well, this is the club to watch in my view. They have a need, with Diego Costa falling out of favor. They have the money, as Costa’s transfer fee will be large and other moves haven’t really materialized for the club. Chelsea also have the ambition to buy the best players in the world and have showed a propensity to make offers few clubs can refuse.
Let’s just hope if Celtic does a bit of business with the Blues down South, they find a way to fleece them for as much cash as humanly possible.
But, in the end, this is likely a choice for the player more so than the club. Celtic seems to be a good home for Dembele and the set up is staying attractive to him. Get through to the Champions League proper and there is little need to sell him on or for him to want to go elsewhere.

Dembele isn’t going to be in the Hoops for much longer, but unless someone is going to knock Celtic’s socks off with a real offer he’s likely a member of the Bhoys for the 2017-18 season.
