1897 — it was the last time Celtic absolutely crushed Sevco on their home turf. It was 4-0 back some 120 years ago. Fast forward over a century later and history was once again made by the Hoops.

April 29, 2017 marks the day Celtic destroyed Sevco 5-1 at Ibrox. The Celtic faithful saw Ibrox emptying out with just under a half hour to go in the match as the Bhoys were up 4-0 in the 66th minute.

Celtic got off to an early start, pouring on the attack from the opening kick and never looking back.

Patrick Roberts gave fits down the right side from the opening minute, and his effort paid off as he earned a foul in the box. Scott Sinclair stepped up and hammered home the penalty.

Sevco fans reacted with their usual mix of denseness and racism:

It was just the start of an amazing day from the Bhoys and a typically dense day from Sevco supporters.

Celtic would double its lead 11 minutes later as Leigh Griffiths put an absolute screamer past Fodderingham from the left side of the box. It was 2-0 Celtic just 18 minutes in to the match.

However, the Bhoys weren’t going to let up. Instead, they continued to attack and could’ve easily had two or three more goals before half. Sinclair missed two sitters and Griffiths managed to hit the post before the whistle sounded for the half.

Deja vu struck in the second half, as Celtic made it 3-0 on a Callum McGregor nutmeg goal just seven minutes in to the second half. The Ibrox nutters reacted by throwing scarves on the pitch and taking off for the exits.

Things really escalated as Dedryck Boyata got a free header in the 66th minute and made it 4-0, equaling the biggest win by the Bhoys over Rangers.

Kenny Miller decided to get in a goal in the 81st minute, but few Sevco supporters were left to see it and the match was well in hand already.

Just for good measure, right back Mikael Lustig got a beauty of a goal as he lurked around the top of the box in the 87th minute of the match. His side-footed effort beat Fodderingham low and curling to the right.

Sevco’s highlights included the racist monkey sign at Sinclair along with a fan attempting to attack Celtic players and Leigh Griffiths nearly getting hit by a battery in the second half.

All of it futile action by supporters of a club that is so far away from competing at Celtic’s level.

The 5-1 win adds to a history-making season for the Bhoys, giving them the most goals scored on the road against Sevco and matching the largest margin of victory as well.

Celtic continue their march to an undefeated season as well, sitting on 94 points in 34 matches and winning 30 of the 34 matches, with just four draws on the Scottish Premiership season.

Celtic has had the title in hand for awhile, but to continue its march towards the craziest of Scottish football history in the fashion it did today is certainly a cause for celebration.

Brendan Rodgers was not about to let his side take it easy on Sevco, and that resulted in history being made once again.

This one won’t be forgotten for some time.
