Patrick Roberts’ Making Loan Deal Permanent

After his mouth-watering performance on Sunday against Hearts, Roberts appears to be a fun piece to Brendan Rodgers’ puzzle at Celtic. However, there’s a harsh reality that needs to be dealt with — he’s English and property of Manchester City.

The Citizen’s are likely to be low on English players for its squad in the coming season, and having Roberts available to recall in to the squad to help count as a home-grown player is going to be a big draw for the sky blue part of the city.

None of those facts stopped the rumor mill from running that Celtic and Roberts wanted to make his loan move permanent. That’s not to say there wasn’t any truth to the rumors, as it is easy to see why both sides would want that deal to happen. It’s just that Manchester City aren’t likely to be very keen on such a move.

We’ll see what happens at the end of this season, but given the increasing level of play from Roberts and his English citizenship, it is hard to see Man City not taking him back. No matter if it is best for the player — it is all about what is best for the Citizens.
