A Trio of Suitors for Simunovic

Jozo Simunovic was just hours away from being a member of Torino at the end of the last transfer window. Since then, he’s gotten healthy and been a steady rock for the Bhoys in the middle of defense.

Now we’re supposed to believe that Brendan Rodgers is just going to go scorched earth with his backline. Rumors from the Daily Star had a trio of English clubs looking at adding the strong central defender.

Those clubs were supposed to be Newcastle, Sunderland and Crystal Palace.

As you can see, there seems to be a pattern with these rumors — an English club fighting relegation needs help at the back so let’s link them up with a move for perhaps one of the top back 4’s in all of the U.K.

Supposedly, the valuation was double what Celtic were going to let Simunovic go for at the beginning of the season and that means a £6 million move.

It’s good money no doubt, but it would also require a suspension of reality that we just couldn’t get behind. I mean, were Celtic really going to sell on their two strongest defenders in the same transfer window while going for a domestic treble and protecting an unbeaten run in Scottish football?

Give me a break with that kind of crap. Simunovic is seen as a long-term player for Rodgers, not some quick sell-on. If he goes anywhere it won’t be until after this season at the very earliest and likely not even then.
