Earlier this year Dundee made it abundently clear that they would love to take a home match against Celtic and play it overseas in the United States of America.

No doubt, those of us Celtic supporters here in the States would love to see the Hoops in an actual meaningful match on our home soil. It truly would be an amazing experience. However, a healthy dose of skepticism has been placed on that match actually happening this season.

According to a report in the Scottish Daily Record, Dundee put out a rather cryptic message to Dees supporters once its match against Celtic had been moved to Sunday, March 19. That match or any other in the second half of the season were long suspected as the target for any potential Stateside match.

Before you Bhoys and Ghirls get too excited though, Dundee backed off the talk of this mach being the one to take over here.

"“With today’s fixture amendments release including the upcoming home match against Celtic we would like to address the situation regarding discussions which have been ongoing with the possibility of playing a fixture in the United States of America. A lot of positive conversations have taken place regarding this over the period since the initial discussions took place about playing this fixture in America but unfortunately it will not go ahead at this time.”"

The release on the club’s website also went on to note that further conversations are being had about what could be done in the future.

Sure, it may be a longshot, but it seems as if the Dons are looking at finding a way to bank off the currency that is Celtic Football Club more than just the filling of the away section at Dens Park. Could it mean maybe a series of whole weekend SPFL matches coming to the United State or simply finding a way to maybe do something with the clubs during the winter break that we are currently under?

It sure would be nice to find a way to get the club to the States or anywhere in North America, something that hasn’t happened since a single game against Real Madrid in Philadelphia back in 2012.

With Celtic’s pre-season shortened these days thanks to extended Champions League qualification, getting them across the pond is not a likely scenario in the pre-season.

So, we’ll continue to wait patiently to see the Bhoys live and in person here in the United States and hope that perhaps Dundee’s ambitions to bring more money and attention to the club also benefit those of us Celtic supporters here in the States.
