Celtic has one of the most crowded midfields in world football, let alone in Scotland. This much is evident by the fact that Nir Bitton hardly gets a game these days.

He should be surplus to Celtic’s needs in January, as Rodgers looks to bring on a true defensive-minded midfielder to pair up with Scott Brown. Arguably it is the only thing really missing from the needs list Rodgers stated this past offseason.

Bitton has gone from stalwart in the Starting XI to out of favor quickly.

He apparently has squandered all of the early opportunities given to him, because Bitton is usually nowhere to be found but on the bench or in the stands on game day.

Bitton has been given every chance to fill a role with this team. He has started 10 games in all competitions and come up with just one goal and one assist on to date. However, Bitton has started just one game since his disasterous appearance in the League Cup final against Sevco.

That starts came on Dec. 17 against Dundee in league play, where Bitton hadn’t started since an Oct. 1 matchup against Dundee as well.
