Considering the narrative around the team at the moment, one would not believe that Celtic are still very much in contention to win the treble. That is the reality of life at Parkhead though. The quest is to be as close to perfect as possible and since the turn of the year, the Hoops have not been anywhere near. They have lost four league games in 2025 already, two of them against the Rangers.

Their most recent defeat came at the hands of St Johnstone, even though the opposition are currently bottom of the Premiership table. Even more worryingly, the two teams will meet again later this month at Hampden Park for the Scottish Cup semi-final.

Celtic could not find the back of the net in over 90 minutes against the second-worst defence in the league at the weekend. Daizen Maeda struggled but considering he has scored 30 goals this season, he will get some leeway. The same cannot be said about Adam Idah.

The Irish striker was brought on around the hour mark as Maeda's replacement. Idah failed to make his mark on the game though and questions are already being asked about his long-term future at Parkhead.

It was just last summer that Celtic signed Idah from Norwich City for an initial fee believed to be in the region of €10 million. But as reported by the Daily Record, Andy Townsend said:

"Celtic spent on Adam Idah last summer, but it wouldn't surprise me if they go and buy another striker this summer and I think they will.

"Now he's an experienced boy. He's been around long enough and I think he's got to hurry up and find that extra 10, 15 per cent, which is required, I think, to nail a position down somewhere consistently where he is absolutely the number one, whether it's club or country, he's not really been able to do that.

"If he's not careful, someone else will come in at Celtic because Brendan Rodgers is not going to wait, Celtic never wait and they’ve lost Kyogo Furuhashi but they do have Daizen Maeda who poses more of a threat down the middle.

"Adam has got to take the opportunities that he's being given. He came off the bench for Ireland and got himself a goal, that is good, but there's more to come from him."

Celtic going out and signing a striker in the summer is very possible. It is worth remembering that they did not replace Kyogo in the winger, even though he was the first-choice centre-forward before leaving for Rennes.

Idah needs to pick up his form. He has scored 14 goals this season, which is decent for a backup striker. But he has not been able to establish himself as a key player and never really pushed for the starting spot.
