Celtic were always a popular club all over the world, especially in a country like Australia. And Ange Postecoglou’s arrival as manager has only raised this popularity to the point where they are set to tour the country later this year. Now, this has raised a fair bit of controversy as well, as a Glasgow Derby is set to be played in Sydney, a decision that the supporters of neither club appear to be happy about.

Now, the World Cup in Qatar means that there will be a gap in the footballing calendar later this year and that is the perfect time for a tour like this. It will help to grow the popularity of the club on a global stage, while also helping some of the players keep up with their fitness.

And while the friendly between Celtic and the Rangers might have raised its fair share of eyebrows, it is not hard to see why it has been arranged.

As reported by The Roar, rumours in Scotland suggest that Celtic are set to receive $11 million for the game and the Rangers $5 million.

Celtic set to receive incredible fee for Australia tour

It goes without saying that that is an incredible figure and will go a long way in helping Celtic keep up with sides from around Europe.

It will become even more important if the Hoops are unable to win the Premiership this season and end up missing out on the Champions League spot up for grabs as a result.

All of this is for the future though. For now, the focus must be firmly on the league title race. As things stand, Celtic are enjoying a 3 point advantage over the Rangers but with 8 games left, that can easily be overturned in a very short span of time.
