Celtic: 3 stars who can be like new signings for Ange Postecoglou
Christopher Jullien
Many believe that Jullien is still the best natural defender at Celtic. We have not seen much of him for a long time though.
In fact, Jullien did not make a single appearance for Celtic in 2021. He had picked up a long-term injury which was expected to keep him out of action for about four months initially. Even that was a big blow for the club.
But since then, the French defender has appeared to suffer setbacks on his path to recovery and is yet to return to the pitch, over a year later.
Fortunately, he has returned to training, and it looks like he could finally be closing in on a return to action. That is brilliant news for Celtic to say the least.
The club have been an option short in the heart of defence this season till now, with Cameron Carter-Vickers, Carl Starfelt and Stephen Welsh being their three recognised centre-backs who have been available. Hopefully, Jullien’s return will solidify their backline.
Giorgos Giakoumakis
Giakoumakis had topped the Eredivisie scoring charts last season and by quite some distance. Thus, there were huge expectations surrounding the Greek striker as he arrived at Celtic late in the summer.
Things have not worked out for him since then though. He did not have much of a pre-season, and has struggled to remain fit since then. His form has not been great either.
According to stats from Transfermarkt, Giakoumakis has made 8 appearances for Celtic till now, finding the back of the net only once.
There are hopes though that he will find his fitness in the second half of the season and be available for selection on a consistent basis.
At the top of his game, Giakoumakis has shown that he can score consistently, having done so in the previous campaign with VVV-Venlo. Hopefully, he can go on a similar run of form for Celtic as well.
