A number of managers have been linked with the Celtic job over the course of the past few months, as the club are expected to make an appointment in the summer.

Names like Eddie Howe, Chris Wilder, Frank Lampard, Rafa Benitez, Jesse Marsch and many others have been floated around in the recent past. But one name among these that must be considered as surprising is that of Roy Keane.

The Manchester United legend does not have a lot of experience as a manager. His previous stints at Sunderland and Ipswich Town were not very successful. And even more importantly, they were over a decade ago.

Since then, he has served as the assistant manager to the Republic of Ireland national team, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest. But you certainly have to question whether he has the experience required to take over at a club the size of Celtic, especially as they are staring at a transitional season and a massive summer rebuild.

Could Keane to Celtic actually happen?

The Keane to the Hoops rumours have continued to gather momentum over the past several weeks and as reported by the Independent, he has now been made the odds-on favourite to become the new manager of the club.

Of course, nothing is sure yet and this is speculation at this point of time, but it does look like the recent rumours are pointing towards Keane heading to Parkhead at the end of this season, which is a bit confusing considering he has not managed a club in over a decade now.

He has served in multiple assistant managerial roles since then though and is it possible that he has improved and developed as a manager in that period of time? Absolutely. But even then, if he is handed the Parkhead job, it is certain to raise a few eyebrows around the footballing world.
