Our final notable short-term, veteran option to replace Frimpong would be Burnley’s Phil Bardsley. The 35-year-old Scottish international spent five years on loan from Manchester United to clubs across Europe (including Rangers) before settling in with Sunderland from 2007 to 2014, making 200 appearances for the Black Cats and winning their club’s Player of the Year award in 2011.

He followed his time in Sunderland at Stoke City before his current stint with Burnley since 2017. His role has lessened under Sean Dyche of late and understandably so considering the fact that he is set to turn 36 at the end of the campaign. With six appearances this season and 22 last year, he could very well be available for a short-term loan deal if Celtic want to pursue it.

Bardsley would be much more of a short-term stop-gap replacement for Frimpong than some others, but could provide a heavy veteran presence that could help spur a struggling side through the rest of the campaign at least.

Again, none of these are long-term solutions but options that we are likely to get in this window over big money acquisitions.
