Shane Duffy has already left Celtic’s Dubai winter training camp and the reason for that has been revealed by the Sky Sports journalist.
When Shane Duffy was signed by Celtic on a season-long loan, he was expected to be a major coup for the Hoops. After all, he was a Premier League proven talent who had grown up supporting the club. What could possibly go wrong?
As it turns out, a lot. The Republic of Ireland international started out in Scotland like a ball of fire but has fizzled away badly since then. So much so that most Celtic fans would be happy to see the back of him in January itself.
At this point of time, he looks completely out of Neil Lennon’s plans. The fact Nir Bitton started ahead of him in the Glasgow Derby should tell you everything you need to know about his current standing at Parkhead.
Thus, when news broke out that he had left the club’s Dubai training camp early, there were the expected whispers that he might actually be leaving for good. As it turns out, that is not the case and personal reasons are the cause behind his early exit. This was confirmed by Sky Sports’ Anthony Joseph:

We can only hope that whatever the issue is is not very serious and gets sorted out quickly. Duffy has been through a lot over the past year or so already.
At the end of the day, he is a Celtic player and one that loves the club dearly. That might be a massive reason behind his disappointing performances as he has let his personal feelings for the Hoops affect his on pitch displays.
He probably expected to come in and be a 10IAR hero but has found reality to be a lot different. And that could have a huge psychological effect on any player in his situation.
Whatever may be the case, we would like to extend our best wishes in this situation and hopefully things will be better for him and his family as soon as possible.
