Celtic are looking to sign a Greek playmaker who has been labelled as the ‘New Modric’ following his impressive performances.
With the transfer window opening in the next few days, Celtic will be looking to strengthen in a number of areas. And while their immediate attention will be on trying to sign some backup for Odsonne Edouard, Greek outlet SDNA are linking the Scottish champions with Panathinaikos playmaker, Giannis Bouzoukis.
The 21-year-old has been labelled as the ‘New Luka Modric’. He has represented Greece at a number of youth levels and has made a name for himself among Greek footballing circles for his ability to slice through defences with his passes. And he has been described as the best Greek playmaker of his generation.
Luka Modric is arguably the greatest playmaker of the last decade. He won the Ballon D’Or last year over the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, and managed to captain the Croatia national team to the World Cup final in Russia in 2018. Thus, it is very high praise indeed to compare the Panathinaikos starlet to the Real Madrid superstar.
As reported by HITC, while talking about Bouzoukis’ chances in Scotland, Graham Wood said:
“Apart from his awesome surname, which is the same as the Greek musical instrument of the same name, this lad is one of the best young players to come through from Panathinaikos’ famed academy.
“He might struggle with the physical aspect at first but I think once he gets to grips with it he’ll be a success wherever he goes. And Panathinaikos are completely skint so would be difficult for them to turn down a decent offer.”
According to reports in SDNA, Celtic have been very impressed with Bouzoukis’ abilities. And Nicky Hammond is planning to bring the 21-year-old to Parkhead in the January transfer window. But they are not without competition though as To10 are claiming that Italian giants, Inter Milan, are looking to bring the Greek star to San Siro after having sent scouts to Athens.
