It is almost winter time, which means the rumours are flowing! Celtic is once again linked with another player, but may face competition.
Celtic has a phenomenal reputation for signing young, talented players, developing the player, and then either utilize them on the first team, or move them for a nice fee. That mentality of building for the future is not going to change anytime soon.
As such, the Hoops now have their eye on Le Mans winger Stephane Diarra, according to a report from L’Equipe. However, the highly rated midfielder is also garnering interest from the likes of English Premier League giants Leicester City and Newcastle.
Of course Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City would be closely following the same prospects as Celtic. Keep in mind that the Hoops’ philosophy of building for the future was heavily enacted by Brendan Rodgers. There is little evidence to think that he would change his ways now just because he has moved to Leicester City.
As far as Stephane Diarra is concerned, he is a highly rated player, who has been playing in the second-tier of football in France all season. It remains to be seen if he could come in and make an immediate impact on the first team. However, he could follow the traditional path of development, and be put on loan to gain experience for an eventual first team look.
In any case, the winter transfer window is sure to be a busy one for the Hoops. There is a distinct possibility that Celtic could make a huge splash in the transfer market.
Injuries to key players, as well as the need for some front-end talent to help Odsonne Edouard up front, may pressure the Hoops to make a big move. Also what needs consideration is Celtic’s desire to succeed in the Europa League, which may mean that extra talent will be seen as a necessity.
