Celtic should be worried about one clause in Fraser Forster’s contract

Celtic has one thing to worry about in this upcoming winter transfer window. With the thought of adding to the club, there could be a subtraction.

Fraser Forster has been absolutely electric for Celtic this season. The big man has come up clutch in multiple big situations, and has been a stalwart in Europa League action this season. Forster was brought in on loan from Southampton back during the summer transfer window.

The timing of Fraser Forster’s arrival coincided with an untimely injury to Scott Bain, and since Forster’s arrival he has been the top man at the goalkeeping position.

Now, with January approaching, the idea is that Celtic will aggressively add pieces to help with a deep Europa League push, as well as help with depth during domestic league and cup matches.

However, there is a distinct possibility that the Hoops could be without their main man, the big man, Fraser Forster come January. There is a clause in his loan contract that allows for the goalkeeper to be recalled to Southampton in January Raman Bhardwaj and Celts Are Here.

Now, the question remains if Southampton would even recall Fraser Forster. The goalkeeper was sent to the Hoops on loan earlier in the season because he had fallen so far down the depth chart at Southampton. Some saw him as possibly even the fourth ranked goalkeeper at the English club.

On top of depth at the goalkeeper position at Southampton, there is also the question of wages. Would Southampton want to take back on all of the wages of Fraser Forster, especially considering the time he may get on the pitch?

One thing is certain, he has proved he can play at a high level, as demonstrated by his performances in European competition. He also has demonstrated that he wants to stay with Celtic long-term. In the end, it seems unlikely Forster would return to Southampton in January, and is more likely to stay on permanently with the Hoops.
