Celtic scouting youngster wanted by Manchester City

Celtic are reportedly scouting a 17-year-old English youngster who is also being linked with Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Everton and RB Leipzig.

Since the arrival of Nicky Hammond, Celtic are on a roll when it comes to the transfer market. The signings of Fraser Forster, Mohamed Elyounoussi, Christopher Jullien and Jeremie Frimpong have been huge hits at Parkhead already. And now they are targeting Gillingham goalkeeper, Joe Walsh.

The highly-rated 17-year-old caught the eye with his performance for the Gillingham under-21s against the Tottenham Hotspur under-21s side. He kept a cleansheet against one of the best youth teams in England. And now it looks like the London club are interested in signing Walsh alongwith the likes of Manchester City, Everton and RB Leipzig.

And now it is being reported by the Evening Times that the Scottish champions are also keeping tabs on the goalkeeper. The 17-year-old just signed his first professional contract last May and is currently tied down to Gillingham till 2022.

The signing of Joe Walsh will certainly be one for the future as the Hoops currently have Fraser Forster, Scott Bain and Craig Gordon on their books. While Forster is only on a season-long loan from Southampton at the moment but Celtic will certainly be hoping make the deal permanent next season, which is looking increasingly possible as the Saints are struck in a relegation battle  at the moment and might find themselves in the Championship next season.

But even then Celtic looks like the best option for Joe Walsh. It will certainly be easier to break into the first-team at Parkhead instead than the likes of Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur or even Everton who currently have England no. 1, Jordan Pickford, at Goodison Park. And with the form that the Glasgow club have been recently when it comes to the transfer market, you would not be betting against them getting the deal done.
