Another name has been connected with Celtic, but what happens if the Hoops bring him on during the Winter transfer window?
Once again, the transfer rumours are picking up full steam as December and January start to come into focus. Celtic has been playing phenomenal as of late, and currently sit atop not only the Scottish Premiership League, but also the Europa League Group E.
Now, Mark Diemers, a Dutch midfielder from Fortuna Sittard, a club in the Netherlands, has been connected with the club according to Walfoot. Diemers has played well during his age 25 season. While appearing in eleven matches, the midfielder has scored five goals and two assists. The production is what has drawn interest from multiple clubs, including the Hoops.
Now, what if Celtic were in fact to sign Mark Diemers from Dutch side Fortuna Sittard? As the Celtic Star pointed out, it would require someone to take a step down from the current first squad. They insist that if Mark Diemers were to come aboard, it would likely mean that Olivier Ntcham would see his departure from the club. This take makes sense considering Ntcham has been thinking about his departure from the club for quite some time.
However, Mark Diemers could prove to be an upgrade over Nir Bitton or even Ntcham if either see their leave from the club. What Mark Diemer could provide at a higher level of playing with a club such as Celtic remains to be seen. What we do know is that the Hoops are very good at identifying, and then developing talent from some quite unlikely sources. While not a direct comparison, a relatively unknown player such as Mohamed Elyounoussi was brought in during the summer, and is now one of the most productive and trusted players that Celtic boss Neil Lennon has on the squad. Could that await Mark Diemer if he joins the Hoops?
