The international break is finally over and Celtic return to Premiership action on Saturday as they travel to New Douglas Park to take on Hamilton. And Saturday’s game could also result in Neil Lennon handing a debut to the Scottish Champions’ marquee signing of the summer transfer window.
Mohamed Elyounoussi joined Celtic in the summer on a season-long loan from Southampton after his failed £16 million Premier League switch from FC Basel last season, as the highly rated winger failed to find the back of the net even once during his time in England.
The Norwegian will surely be hungry for regular football and eager to rebuild his reputation as he looks to take Scottish football by storm. And his first chance to impress his new fans could come this Saturday as there is a good chance that he could be handed his Celtic debut against Hamilton.
Mikey Johnston who has been a regular starter under Neil Lennon this season has already confirmed that he will miss the upcoming game with a groin strain that also saw him being sent back from the Scotland under-21 squad last week.
Scott Sinclair has fallen down the pecking order and seen just 56 minutes of action in 2019/20 despite scoring 60 goals for the club over the past three seasons. And Lewis Morgan has not looked impressive enough in the opportunities that he has gotten till now to be trusted with a regular first team spot in the absence of the brilliant Mikey Johnston.
As a result, the door could be wide open for Elyounoussi to make his debut for Celtic tomorrow and make a strong first impression at his new club. Celtic fans will hoping that the Norwegian can replicate the form that he showed at FC Basel, which persuaded Southampton to pay £16 million for his services last summer.
