Legendary Manchester United centre-back, Nemanja Vidic, has come out and paid a huge compliment to Celtic Park and Hoops fans that they will surely love.
Nemenja Vidic will surely go down as one of the best defenders to ever play for the Red Devils. During his time at Old Trafford, the Serbian formed one of the best centre-back pairings in Premier League history along with Rio Ferdinand. One of the most intimidating defenders ever to put on a pair of football boots, Vidic has recently made a statement about Celtic Park and fans that will surely surprise most.
Bought from Spartak Moscow for a reported £7 million on Christmas Day in 2005, Vidic quickly blossomed into one of the best centre-backs on the planet under the tutelage of the great Sir Alex Ferguson. The Serbian made 300 appearances during his time at Manchester United, winning 15 titles in the process. One of the most intimidating defenders ever to put on a pair of football boots, Vidic has recently made a statement about Celtic Park and fans that will surely surprise most.
Asked about whether he was fazed by any club’s fans during his playing career, Vidic included Celtic Park while naming some of the most intimidating stadium he had ever played in. Coming through the ranks at Red Star Belgrade, the Serbian is no stranger to electric atmospheres at football stadiums. Yet he decided to name Napoli and Celtic fans as the most daunting he had faced in his playing career.
Speaking with the Athletic, when the subject of intimidating fans came up, Vidic said:
”They were in Naples, which had a reputation for being loud and intimidating.
“When you have played at Red Star you don’t really get intimidated.
“Maybe only at Celtic Park for the first 10 minutes of a game when the fans breathe fire towards the players.”
Although, Vidic also added that he included the challenge of playing in front of the Glasgow crowd:
“I loved playing at Celtic and felt like it was my mentality that I had grown up with.”
Celtic fans will surely be pleased with the Serbian’s claims as they pride themselves around the atmosphere at Celtic Park on matchdays.
