What is happening with Rekeem Harper to Celtic transfer?

There is some confusion over Celtic signing Rekeem Harper this summer

There are conflicting reports over Celtic signing West Bromwich Albion Rekeem Harper with contradictory reports in the media.

Shane Callaghan at HITC is claiming that the arrival of Nicky Hammond as Celtic’s new Head of Recruitment will help see the deal over the line.

Former WBA Technical Director Hammond will join Celtic at the start of July replacing Lee Congerton who joined the former Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers at Leicester City.

The thinking is that Hammond will be able to use his influence with the teenager to get the transfer completed sooner rather than later.

Whereas, Liam Prenderville at the Mirror is reporting that Juventus are “hopeful” of persuading the 19-year-old midfielder to join them in Italy.

Additionally, the same report also claims that Premier League duo Tottenham and Liverpool are interested in the youngster.

Harper is an exciting talent and will only cost £235,000 in compensation thus the increased interest in the lad. He has already been given a tour of Parkhead and his signing was thought to be a formality. That may well no longer be the case depending on which report you find more believable.

The youngster made 16 appearances last season for the Baggies and his club are making a determined effort to persuade him to sign a new contract. However, with so many high profile clubs interested in him it is difficult to see him staying put.

One persuading factor that may give Celtic the edge is the possibility of regular first-team football. He is far more likely to feature at senior level with the Hoops than with Juve, Spurs or Liverpool.

All interested clubs can offer him Champions League football but again, it is far more probable he will experience playing in Europe’s elite competition with Celtic than the other potential suitors.
