Celtic attract fans from all over the world to enjoy what the club has to offer. Similarly, or maybe not so, the same appreciation for Celtic is shown by the players. Some players show their love despite playing for another club.
That’s the kind of situation that has evolved from West Bromwich Albion’s James McClean. The midfielder recently admitted his admiration for the Hoops which, according to Herald Scotland, came after Celtic’s Champions League win over Barcelona years ago.
More from The Celtic Bhoys
“I remember saying to my wife, while I have always wanted to play for Celtic, I wanted to do it even more so that night.
“I’m a Premier League footballer and leaving the ground that night, I was thinking I would give anything to play for Celtic.”
The comments from McClean come with some coincidence as the January transfer window dawns upon us.
The Celts have plenty to offer in the attacking midfield, so do they really need the likes of McClean? This season, McClean has made 12 appearances for West Brom but has yet to score a goal.
However, recent heroics from McClean for Ireland proved he could find the net in the most crucial of situations. The goal from the England national contributed to the failure of Wales making the World Cup.
The biggest problem with McClean that relates to many of Celtic’s other transfer targets is his age. The Bhoys have been linked with 32-year-old Leipzig defender Marvin Compper, and are now submerged around a 28-year-old McClean.
Add in the fact that it hasn’t been one of the most productive seasons from McClean with West Brom shows that he’s not a player for now or in the future. Unless McClean is selling cheap, this has to be a huge pass from Brendan Rodgers and the Celtic board.
The Celts also have some huge decisions to make upcoming on some of their own star players such as Moussa Dembele. Celtic have to start looking for players that can be a potential replacement for the playmakers of today.
